  • WILLS: Perspectives on Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act

    Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act took effect on January 1, 2021. Conceived as a measure to ensure greater pay transparency and to address gender-based pay inequities, the Act has taken on additional meaning in the “Great Resignation,” when women are dropping out of the workforce at higher rates than men. The goal of attracting, empowering, and retaining female talent is facing fresh challenges. Greater pay transparency on job postings has been a way for employers to attract diverse talent, as well as a tool for employees to use to negotiate higher pay and other benefits.

    This program will feature different perspectives on how Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act has leveled the playing field for working women in the state.

    The confirmed speakers for this program, which is pending approval for one General Continuing Legal Education credit, are as follows:

  • Government Investigations & Enforcement Strategies Seminar

    Please join Davis Graham as we explore current risks of government investigations and enforcement actions that private and public companies in the oil and gas industry face. Government settlements and judgments against companies under the False Claims Act (FCA) are at an all-time high, and the Department of Justice recently announced an expansive initiative for additional FCA enforcement. On top of that, public and political pressure regarding oil and gas retail pricing and climate change has only further increased incentives for government agencies to scrutinize and investigate oil and gas businesses. This program, which includes insights from current and former government officials, will take a closer look at these issues, with topics including:

    • The latest trends in FCA enforcement relating to federal oil and gas leases;
    • Government trespass actions against operators with production on federal lands;
    • The Biden Administration’s initiatives relating to consumer protection, including scrutiny of oil and gas retail pricing; and
    • The Department of Justice’s Civil Cyber-Fraud Initiative and how it can impact oil and gas companies.

  • Connecting the Dots to Create Sustainable Inclusion & Wellness Webinar

    We often separately discuss inclusion in workplaces and wellness in workplaces, but these two areas have not been fully connected and studied in a way that demonstrates how each is less effective without the other. This virtual presentation will delve into the research that Nextions has conducted on the intersection of inclusion and wellness for majority and underrepresented groups and will also touch upon how generational, racial/ethnic, gender, LGBTQI, and other differences impact our understanding of this intersection. This session will provide practical strategies that attendees can take back to implement in their interactions and work habits, and development strategies, especially as our work has transitioned from in-person to virtual and now to a hybrid or fully in-person environment. The tools and techniques to work effectively in virtual and hybrid spaces are different than those we used to use, and they are especially important given the disruptions and stress that our colleagues are facing. This session is designed to delve into the transition to an inclusive environment where all can thrive.

    The confirmed speakers for this program, which has been approved for one Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity Continuing Legal Education credit in the state of Colorado, are as follows:

    • Tess Hand-Bender, Davis Graham, Partner
    • Kenzo Kawanabe, Davis Graham, Partner
