Pro BonoProviding a Critical Means of Access to Justice to Those in Need
Through our participation in the Colorado Supreme Court’s Pro Bono Recognition Program, Davis Graham is committed to upholding the firm’s pledge of providing 50+ hours of pro bono and legal community service per attorney per year. In 2023, Davis Graham lawyers completed more than 8,000 hours of pro bono work and legal community service. Many Davis Graham attorneys represent clients who cannot afford legal services, thereby providing them with critical access to justice. The firm is also a longstanding supporter of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the largest funder of civil legal aid in the country.
Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC)
Davis Graham is a founding member of the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC), a consortium of Colorado firms that work together to undertake significant pro bono cases. In partnership with CLC and the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN), Davis Graham implemented a Credible Fear Interview Program in which three firms were selected to participate in a pilot program helping to prepare asylum seekers at the Aurora ICE Detention Center for their credible fear interviews. Two of the firm’s lawyers served as pro bono counsel for an asylum seeker from Cameroon. Davis Graham received RMIAN’s Pro Bono Service Award for its impactful contributions to Colorado’s immigrant and refugee communities.
In addition, the firm has earned CLC Law Firm of the Year twice for its pro bono contributions. Some of this work has included a historic Colorado voting rights case that resulted in the redrawing of legislative districts in the San Luis Valley, giving Hispanic voters a stronger voice in the selection of their legislators. Davis Graham also participated in a class-action lawsuit against state agencies and two Denver metro area counties, successfully challenging a state welfare reform program that unlawfully cut off cash benefits to some welfare clients.
Nonprofit Partnerships
Davis Graham has partnered with other nonprofit organizations, such as the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center (RMCLC), which protects abused and neglected children. Our lawyers have provided pro bono legal services to RMCLC clients, offering funding and training to help the organization expand its reach. In recognition of this dedicated effort, the Colorado Bar Association named one of its top pro bono awards after former Davis Graham partner Donald W. Hoagland.
