Press Releases | January 31, 2023 Colorado Attorney General Appoints Davis Graham Partner Shannon Stevenson as Solicitor General

Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP is pleased to announce that Shannon Stevenson has been appointed to serve as Solicitor General for the State of Colorado by Attorney General Phil Weiser. Ms. Stevenson will serve as the state’s chief appellate lawyer, overseeing legal strategy for civil and criminal appeals and constitutional litigation handled by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. She will follow in the work of outgoing Solicitor General Eric Olson, who is departing after four years of exceptional and dedicated service to the State of Colorado in this post.

“Shannon’s appellate advocacy skills and extraordinary talent provide her with all the tools to be an outstanding Solicitor General,” said Davis Graham Co-Managing Partner Kristin Lentz. “Her expertise is a tremendous asset to the Attorney General’s Office, and we wish her every success in her new leadership role.”

“I am honored to join Attorney General Weiser and the exceptional and dedicated lawyers of the Colorado Department of Law,” said Ms. Stevenson. “While leaving my clients and colleagues will be hard, I am energized to work with a new team committed to serving the people of Colorado.”

Ms. Stevenson is a seasoned trial and appellate advocate and chair of the firm’s Advocacy Department. She has briefed and argued more than 70 appeals before state and federal appellate courts. She has also litigated, tried, and arbitrated a broad range of cases on behalf of Colorado clients representing numerous industries.

Ms. Stevenson also prioritizes community involvement. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Leadership Denver class of 2020. From 2015-2020, Ms. Stevenson served on the Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission, which recommends candidates for the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and she is a past president of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association.

Ms. Stevenson received her J.D. and B.A. with honors from Duke University. During law school, she served as Editor-in-Chief for the Duke Law Journal and later clerked for the Honorable David M. Ebel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
