Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP is pleased to announce that Mark Champoux has rejoined the firm as a partner in the Trial Department after serving as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy since January 2018. At Davis Graham, he will draw on his combined government and private practice experience to help clients resolve significant litigation, enforcement, and regulatory challenges.

“We are pleased Mark is returning to Davis Graham,” said Davis Graham Co-Managing Partner Chad Williams. “The breadth of his experience in the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. will enhance our ability to serve existing and prospective clients across a range of sectors.”

In his leadership role at DOJ, Mr. Champoux was a primary policy advisor to the Attorney General and coordinated priority legal initiatives across the Department and throughout the Executive Branch relating to regulations, emerging technologies, data privacy, national security, law enforcement, and firearms, among other issues. Mr. Champoux also supervised DOJ’s work in supporting federal judicial nominations, personally preparing over 100 nominees for confirmation by the Senate and overseeing DOJ’s work to secure the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, an undertaking that earned him the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award. As the second-in-command of one of DOJ’s senior leadership offices, Mr. Champoux worked closely with officials across all of DOJ’s litigating and enforcement components, U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the White House, other federal agencies, Congress, the Judiciary, and stakeholder organizations.

Prior to his appointment at DOJ, Mr. Champoux was a trial partner at Davis Graham, litigating complex disputes across the country in a variety of subject matters, including natural resources, energy, securities, real estate, and products liability.

Mr. Champoux holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from Brigham Young University, and previously served as a law clerk to then-Judge Neil M. Gorsuch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He is admitted to practice in Colorado, the District of Columbia, and before numerous federal courts.
