DENVER – JANUARY 22, 2016 – Qusair Mohamedbhai was honored last night with the 2015 Richard Marden Davis Award at a dinner in his honor. The award recognizes his outstanding service to the legal community, along with his civic and charitable leadership.
“It is truly an honor to receive such a prestigious award,” said Mr. Mohamedbhai. “To be among such a highly regarded class of past winners is a humbling experience.”
The Davis Award is presented annually “to a Denver lawyer who is 40 years old or younger and combines excellence as a lawyer with civic, cultural, educational, and charitable leadership.” The award was created in memory of Richard Marden Davis, one of the founders of Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, who devoted himself tirelessly to the profession and the community. Each honoree “best exemplifies the character and promise of Richard Davis at that stage in his career.” Mr. Mohamedbhai follows a long line of past winners who have continued to serve the Denver legal community.
Mr. Mohamedbhai is a founding partner at Rathod Mohamedbhai LLC. His practice focuses on plaintiff’s employment discrimination and constitutional civil rights litigation. He advocates for the rights of employees in the workplace, and for the civil rights of all individuals against governmental and institutional abuses of power. He is an adjunct faculty member teaching constitutional litigation at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Mr. Mohamedbhai serves on the board of Colorado’s Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Association, and the board of the Colorado CLE. He is the committee co-chair of the employment law section of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Mohamedbhai has focused his pro bono efforts to improve the civil rights and liberties of Colorado’s most disenfranchised communities, including undocumented populations, African-American communities, and victims of sexual assault. His dedication to serving nonprofit organizations is shown through his long time board membership of Servicios de la Raza, an organization committed to Latino human services. He serves on the legal committee for the Civil Rights Enforcement and Education Center, advises the Aurora branch of the NAACP in legal matters, and serves as the pro bono general counsel for the Colorado Muslim Society. Mr. Mohamedbhai is also committed to improving relations and strategic partnerships between Colorado’s Muslim community and law enforcement in an effort to combat domestic terrorism while protecting the civil rights and liberties of Muslims in Colorado.
“Mr. Mohamedbhai is a true community leader, giving a voice to the disenfranchised. He is a lawyer dedicated to his clients and his pro bono achievements are remarkable,” said Chris Richardson, managing partner at Davis Graham. “I continue to be impressed by the selection committee’s ability to honor excellent lawyers who have such amazing community involvement.”
